our Story

A smiling woman named Shannon with brown hair and glasses standing beside a smiling man named Avery with red hair and a beard, both wearing blue plaid shirts, outside near a barn or shed with a green background.

We moved out of the city and started a farm to stay connected to nature and teach our three sons self-reliance and life skills. Little did we know that our lives would be filled with such joys and such heartbreaks. We’ve had the joy of helping baby alpacas and sheep be born and the heartache of holding them as they pass away. The farm has taught us all so many valuable lessons, chiefly the fragility and brevity of life itself, and to cherish every moment.

I’m lucky to work with the love of my life, Shannon!

If you would like to learn more about the process of turning Urban Trees into fine furniture, you can watch my Webinar for the NC Urban Forest Council. A lot has changed since then, but it’s a good overview of the entire “value stream.”
